This autumn the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra teams up with the legendary Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & group to pay tribute to one of the world’s greatest vocalists, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Ambitiously, this project fuses Nusrat’s most loved compositions with the full force of the orchestra performing Qawwali classics like Dum Must Qalander and Yeh Jo Halka, Halka’, to stirring love songs like Afreen, Afreen, Piya Re Piya Re and popular Bollywood songs like Zindagi Jhoom Kar and Tere Bin.

Expect to be astonished by some incredible vocals set against a powerful, hypnotic orchestral backdrop conducted by Michael Seal.

“I felt a rush of adrenaline in my chest like I was on the edge of a cliff, wondering when I would jump.” the late Jeff Buckley about hearing Nusrat for the first time.

"I was lucky to work with Nusrat, a true musician who won't be replaced in my life. There was definitely a spiritual element in his music." Eddie Veddar

"He was an extraordinary artist. I've never known someone who can reach into people and lift you up in the way that he could with his voice" Peter Gabriel

“Rahat's performance is simply larger than life", "this isn't just a concert, it's an act of worship.” The Guardian

"The Nephew and anointed disciple of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan spun a web of songs so mesmerising that one could almost feel the soul of the legendary sufi artist in the hall." Eastern Eye

"Rahat’s voice, like that of his uncle’s, is equally phenomenal. For one to employ the human voice as an actual instrument is beyond comprehension; it surpasses what is commonly known as singing, and becomes an elevated form of expression."
